IMPCO Pulls Quality Hat Trick IMPCO Machine Tools has earned ISO 9001, QS-9000/TE, and Ford Q1 quality certification. The company says it is the only machine tool supplier providing microfinishing equipment to the auto industry to win all three credentials. One of the factors making the triple quality registrations possible, IMPCO says, was development of a proprietary quality management database that facilitates reporting and remediation of quality problems anywhere in its processes. The system includes real-time Pareto charting, and also enables tracking of control plans, performance reporting, gage calibration, cost of quality, and more. Microfinishing is used to optimize surface finish, geometry, and size of load-bearing journals such as those found on automotive crankshafts and camshafts. IMPCO says its machines are used on more than 90% of the crankshafts produced in North America by the "Big Three" automotive OEM's. |
